On the second night of the Festival we had the opportunity to listen to the piano duo Gereg Sisters. The program included Brahms’ Sonata for two pianos in F minor, Op. 34/b and a four-hand piano transcription of Ravel’s famous symphonic work La Valse. In the four movements of Brahms’ composition, the piano duo Gereg Sisters built a very expressive melodic phrase, developing the musical form of each movement completely spontaneously and logically. What stood out in particular was the way of dynamic nuance of a large range, which showed a range from subtle, sensitive musical parts to energetic and powerful parts.
Ravel’s composition La Valse, as the composer himself pointed out, represents a new type of musical expression in which emotion is taken to the extreme. It seems that the performance of the piano duo Gereg Sisters in that sense managed to move us into those unpredictable feelings and build a sound space of expressive and clear musicality.
Last night we had the opportunity to listen to two extremely creative works of art, whose extraordinary technique and deep sense of piano sound and colour reached every listener.
