Concert of soprano Maria Gessler (Switzerland) and pianist Kseniia Vokhmianina (Ukraine / Singapore) within the Concert season „Convivium Musicum 16/17“ flowed in the strong and expressive dialogue of top artists and laced in the same colour, character, inner experience. Knowingly selected musical travel through the most diverse emotional ravel, from two sentimental Romances of P.I. Tchaikovsky, through Wolf’s Songs to Goethe’s verses, drama-coloured Wesendonck poems by Richard Wagner and some from the Mahler’s cycle The boy’s magic horn, led the audience into the magical world of united words and tones, richly differentiated and impressive. Thus, in these works Maria Gessler showed the range and the pleasantness of the voice, the uniformity of registers, the refined colour, which Kseniia Vokhmianina upgraded with fine play, adapting to her in every segment. In their mutual conversation, piano in a credible way conjured up the atmosphere in which verses live. Various mosaics of the images were combined with fine-tuning of the phrase, musicality and talent. We also felt a special subtlety and a reliable attitude in Kseniia’s interpretation of three solo compositions for piano – Kelly Tang’s Elegy, Les collines d’Anacapri and La fille aux cheveux de lin of Claude Debussy.
In such encounters artists of extraordinary biography, where on the one hand we have soprano as the bearer of many major lyrical, drama opera roles and recognized interpreter of lid, and on the other pianist who thoroughly builds both soloist and career of chamber musician and who is the winner of many awards at international competitions, we could not expect anything less than a very successful and committed performance.
